Challenging Yet Successful
| By far I believe that this was one of my most successful projects. I believe I was successful in two areas: one for finishing the project to what I wanted, and one for knowledge. I learned how much I loved and would like to continue scratchboard and I believe that is a success in itself. I knew from the get go that I wanted to Jellyfish, because I believe the illusion of light that the silver scratchboard gave the jellyfish resembled underwater light. I was very intrigued by this idea. I had never even seen a scratchboard for me, so this entire endeavour was a learning experience. I was very excited to figure out how to do stippling on the jellyfish, I believe that was a breakthrough in the piece. I also had to figure out how to cover up a problem when one of the lightstreaks went horizontal due to my paper moving. That was really disheartening, and a main challenge I had to overcome. |
More Questions:
1) Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. Were the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc beneficial to enhancing this project. Please explain. - I believe that my most successful was my Dum-Dum. It had been a very long time since I used Prisma to create an image. I had fun trying several angles for the lollipop, not sure which side to do. It took me awhile to settle on this angle, but I believe that it was by far the best choice I could have made. I started with stick, and then the fruit and letters and worked my way out from there. I used the technique of slowly layering colors on top of each other, and although I didn't have a 20/20 outlook on how it would look in the end, I trusted myself and in the end am very very happy with the final product. | |
2) Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain. - I think that the first mini project I felt helped me was the blocks and shadows. In the very beginning we turned off certain lights and had to draw what we saw. My group let me design the structure. I think that it helped me with my shadows and was beneficial for me to look at my shading progress in the future.
I believe another mini project that helped me was the fabric thumbnails and overall final. Playing with the different mediums ultimately led me down the path of colored pencils. The fabric helped me figure out what materials I liked and what I didn't, and also let me explore. The fabric helped me later in personal project with shirts and learning how they moved.
