SELF PORTRAIT oh my goodness I am so glad it's over. There were so many ups and downs with this piece. I had the idea of of using graphite and colored pencil. I like this combination because the color is such an important part of who I am that I wanted to make it pop. Honestly, I believe it could have come out better. I notice the proportions are a little off. However, I know with each portrait I get better and better. I started with they eyes because that is the part of the human face I am most comfortable with. I think I did very good with the shading of the eyes. I am also proud of the granite. For just a bunch of scribbles, I think it turned out fantastic. However, I know you are waiting for me to talk about the paint. I had red and gold paint smeared over my mouth and down to my shirt, only discovering yesterday where it came from. Initially I was very upset, especially since I was using this is my portfolio for NCState. After discussion with a few art teachers and friends, Leila reminded me of my experience with digital art, and challenged me to digitally reconstruct my piece. I really like the combination of both the traditional and digital medium. I like how my knowledge of one helped with the other. This was a very enlightening experience. |
